The research Training Group 1462 “Model Validation in Structural Engineering” at the faculty of Civil Engineering offers through its fundig by the German Research Foundation (DFG) up to 10 PhD positions and 2 postdoctoral positions. The research Training Group will serve to develop a new methodical basis allowing assessing the quality of numerical simulation models in structural engineering in a quantifiable form. Two aspects of model quality have to be considered simultaneously: the quality of partial models seen as seperated modules for specific engineering tasks and the quality of coupled partial models combined to a complex model of engineering structure. The research topics are as follows:

I-1: Modell- und Dimensionsadaptive Simulationsverfahren zur Beurteilung geometrisch nichtlinearer Probleme im konstruktiven Ingenieurbau

The positions are offered for one year with the possibility of extending the contracts for another two years. Highly motivated candidates with excellent academic records are asked to apply for a specific research field as outlined above. The deadline for applications is April 25^th, 2008.
