2008-2009 Michigan Nursing Scholarship Information
General eligibility requirements include:
Minimum half-time enrollment (6 credits) in the Level I or Level II program
Michigan residency for one year prior to beginning of nursing program enrollment
United States citizen or permanent resident
Agree to gain nursing licensure and eligible direct care nursing employment
in Michigan within one year of completing academic program.
Agree to repay the scholarship to the State of Michigan if the work requirement
or other program provisions are not met.
Have not been convicted of a violent felony crime.
Possess a high school diploma or GED.

Program limits:
The funding for this scholarship is provided by the State of Michigan. Applicants are not
guaranteed an award. Funds allocated to each college are limited. Annual awards are
$4,000 per academic year for full time students, $3,000 for three-quarter time students, or
$2,000 for half-time students. Scholarship cannot exceed cost of attendance when
combined with other grants and awards. It is anticipated that approximately 20
applicants will be awarded the scholarship for the 2008-2009 school year.

Required Agreement:
Any applicant awarded the scholarship must sign the Scholarship Agreement and
Promissory Note that he/she will achieve licensure within one year of completing the
Nursing program and agree to the specified employment provisions. Students receiving
a full time scholarship award have to agree to work as a direct care nurse in Michigan
one year for each year of assistance. Failure to do so will result in repayment of the
scholarship funds awarded.

Kirtland Specific Requirements:
Applicants must have a minimum Kirtland GPA of 2.7 for consideration.
Priority may be given to students with need; however, financial need is not a
requirement for receiving the scholarship. A combination of academic performance
and clinical performance will be two primary factors used by faculty when ranking
applicants. Consideration will also be given to a candidate=s self motivation, positive
attitude, self-directedness, and value as a professional. Students enrolled in Level II
program during 2008-2009 will receive first consideration.

Application Procedures:
Submit application, written statement of goals and at least one letter of recommendation
no later than Friday, August 29, 2008 for consideration for the 2008-2009 academic year.
The Office of Financial Aid will review applications to ensure general eligibility
requirements are met. Selection of recipients will be determined by a panel of KCC Level
I and Level II Nursing Program faculty. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by
the end of September.
