D. in Oct. 2004 I have been looking for a post doc position in Plant Science / biotechnology / molecular biology etc. I want the position to upgrade my skills so that I may be able to use the rich gene-pool of my region for generating economic gains. It is expected from a prospective postdoc candidate to have publications in good journals. Hailing from a remote Himalayan place of Darjeeling in a third world country like India while belonging to a marginalized group like Indian Nepalese (Gorkhas), that seems a distant possibility. Had I got such publications and a reasonable infrastructure in my place why would I be hankering for a postdoc abroad. Is there any solution to my predicament?

Since doing my Ph.
