2009 Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Public Service New York
2009 Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Public Service: The Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Public Service (FELPS) is a program for individuals early in their careers who are working full-time in public service jobs in the New York City area. By providing a network of public service leaders, structured opportunities to engage in dialogue, and career exploration activities, FELPS prepares the next generation of leaders in public service. FELPS is sponsored by the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University, which offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy, Master of Urban Planning, Master of Science in Management and Doctor of Philosophy. Through these rigorous programs, NYU Wagner educates the future leaders of public, nonprofit, and health institutions as well as private organizations serving the public sector.
Program
We are pleased to offer approximately 30 emerging leaders the opportunity to participate in the 2009 fellowship. The fellowship begins in January and ends in June. Fellows will be brought together for a series of workshops in the evening, during lunch-time, or over breakfast with an opportunity to:
• Discuss public service issues and career challenges with experts in the public service field
• Build a network of peers and mentors who can offer insight and guidance on career development
• Develop a career plan based on personal assessments and professional goals
Eligibility Criteria
We encourage applications from anyone working full-time in public service in any type of organization in the New York City area. There is no cost for participants or employers. Applicants must also meet the following eligibility requirements:
