2009 International Scholarships for Women: International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. Several fellowships are available for study outside of the U.S.

I am 19 years old, I am currently living in South Africa.
I have been accepted at Erskine College in South Carolina and will be starting there in January. There was a miscommunication and because of that my parents have to pay more than they thought. We cannot afford the fees of the college as we are South Africans and at present the rand/ dollar is at $10.26.
The reason for my decision to attend an American college is because the degree I would have got here in South Afica is not inernationally recognised and as you may or may not know South Africa is currently in a bad way and is not very safe to even live in your own home.
My boyfriend is also currently studying in America and I would love to be able to remain at college and not return back to further my studies here because of financial issues.

I am looking for a full or partial scholarship to help finance my last semester (Fall 2009) at Columbia University to finish the degree program MS in Actuarial Science. Due to the current global economic crisis, my previous sponsor is now unable to finance my education and it seems such a shame to not finish the degree especially since I only have one semester left to go. I am from the Philippines and was a public school Math teacher for 5 years before I was admitted to the program at Columbia. As a student from a third world country, I have no means of personally paying for my tuition and have practically spent all of my savings.
