Doctoral Position in the International Graduate School on “THE COSMIC MATTER CIRCUIT” at the Institute of Astronomy, University of Vienna
At the international graduate school (Initiativkolleg: IK) on “The Cosmic Matter Circuit” one
doctoral positions is available to highly qualified and motivated students starting at earliest on
January 1st, 2009. The PhD program focuses on one of the big challenges of modern Astrophysics,
the various processes of matter cycles. The research topic for this open position is focussed on aspects
of the Interstellar and Intergalactic Medium influenced by stars and affecting galaxies:
- Stellar mass loss, Galactic gas infall and its effects on galaxy evolution, Chemo-dynamical evolution
of galaxies, Galactic winds, Ram-pressure stripping, etc.
Additionally, individual research interests within the framework of Comic Matter Curcuit by the
successful candidate can be addressed.
The position is funded for 2 years with the perspective of an extension by a third year. The successful
applicants are employed half time (20 hours/ week) at the University of Vienna, including up to
10 hours/week in teaching and research tasks to be agreed individually. The total annual stipend
amounts to 14,321 Euros, including health insurance; university tuition fees are waived. Very good
skill of the English language is mandatory. The students are expected to hold a degree equivalent to
the Austrian Diploma or Masters Degree in Astronomy/Astrophysics or a related area.

largest in Europe and offers a stimulating environment and atmosphere for studies and research.
The Institute of Astronomy houses more than 400 students in Bachelor, Master, and PhD level studies
and provides excellent training and research facilities with courses and research topics over a
wide astronomical range from planetary sciences, stellar astrophysics and satellite astronomy to
those of the IK.
Owing to its long history, Vienna is one of the leading cultural metropoles of the world and is situated
in the heart of the growing European Union. The city is located beautifully in the Danube valley,
flanked by the Vienna forest, and is about 2 hours from one of the most attractive hiking and
skiing resorts in Europe.

I am searching for postdoc position in plant metabolome. I studied the effect of different forms of biotic and abiotic stressed on Brassica metabolome by using NMR spectroscopy and HPLC combined with multivariate data analysis such as principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). I characterized Brassica metabolome and differentiate between different cultivars before studying the effect of biotic and abiotic stresses on Brassica metabolome.

As a Senior Laboratory Technologist, having a permanent employment with National Institute for Medical Research (Since 1993 to Date), I am responsible for Health Research activities within and outside my working Centre and I execute follow ups and submit reports on activities and programs within my department, to prepare and analyze reports for scientific meetings, conferences and workshops, to manage research database and perform any other duties assigned.

I want to know if there is any choice for scholership in Vienna for Urban planning.
I am interested to join Vienna University-Faculty of Social Sciences for a PhD course in Sociolinguistics. I have a B.A degree (1st class) in Kiswahili and Sociology from Egerton University. I too have an M.A degree in Kiswahili from the university. I have developed a PhD proposal on HIV/AIDS, Sex and Language in Kenya. How do i secure a scholarship to study at Vienna University and does the institution offer scholarships?

I am Menghis Teklay Isaac from a very poor area (Africa) of developing country Eritrea.I holds my first degree in 2007 from university of Asmara in Biology. Now at this time I am eagerly looking for my M.A program. But due to financial problem I couldn’t get the chance to up grade my profession and also the tuition fees becomes very expensive from time to time specially for the students of a developing country like Eritrea. Postgraduate studies in International Conflict
I am asudanese lady am interested to make my master programm in International Conflict studies because I would like to help the people of my country, Sudan, especially the women and children of Darfur who have suffered so much in the last few years. I am particularly interest in the rights of woman. As a Muslim woman, born and raised in Sudan, I know firsthand the deprivation that women suffer in many Muslim countries. In some parts of Sudan, girls are not educated and even when they are, their education is limited to preparing them to serve as housewives and sometimes secretaries.
Many Muslim societies do not value and do not fully develop the potential of women. This is sad because as we can see in developed countries, women are as intelligent and hardworking as men and can make a huge contribution to development. The oppression of women is partly to blame for the underdevelopment of Sudan and several other predominantly Muslim countries. As a Human Rights advocate, I would like to help change this.
Also, my work both with the African Union Mission in Sudan and the United Nations has given me the opportunity to interact with people who work to advance the right of women, children, refugees, etc. I have seen firsthand the suffering that illiteracy, poverty and underdevelopment can bring to people. I believe that the problems of Darfur and Sudan are essentially problems related to underdevelopment. And the battle for development has to start with the fight against illiteracy, especially among African women.
My undergraduate education in the Arts and Humanities at the University of Khartoum gave me a very good academic background and preparation for further studies at a good university. I am fluent in English, have done most of my undergraduate education in English and also have worked with international organisations in English. Therefore, I am confident that I will do well academically and contribute to the diversity of the International Conflict master program , Even though I was born and raised in a fairly conservative Islamic society, I am quite comfortable studying, working and interacting with people of different backgrounds because I was fortunate that my father was a diplomat, so I spent some of my years abroad, and that has greatly helped me to be more open and enlightened than the average Sudanese girl.
Studying , will give me the opportunity to do an internship with one of the many human rights organisations. That will prepare me to return to my country and engage in human rights work. My career plans are to gain some work experience and ultimately, I hope to work for the United Nations Human Rights Commission.
Therefore, I would appreciate the opportunity to study for an International Conflict or peace studies .
