Research Scholarships Awarded by the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research

The Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research (GEI) intends to award several research scholarships for the year 2009.

The GEI’s scholarship programme supports research projects in the field of textbooks and other educational media. The scholarships are intended to provide both young and established academics and textbook authors from all over the world with the opportunity to comprehensively use the textbook collection in its specialist library, conducting comparative studies and enjoying intensive communication with colleagues.

Each scholarship comprises 1,000 Euros per month and usually covers a time-frame of between two and six weeks. Assistance with travel expenses, which may cover a maximum of 50% of such costs and at most 500 Euros, can only be provided given the availability of sufficient funds and following a specific application procedure.

Applications are invited from academics, all individuals involved in the design or authorship of textbooks, employees of textbook publishing houses, or those who influence curricula and textbooks via activities in the field of education. The research project must be relevant to the collection housed by the GEI specialist library. Applicants are requested to provide:

• A project description with details on the topic, research objectives and method (maximum 3 pages),
• A curriculum vitae,
• A publication list,
• A research plan and details of the length of time the applicant hopes to spend at the GEI

Scholars must be resident in Braunschweig during their period of research at the GEI, and, if desired, they may be accommodated in the institute’s guest house (240 Euros per month). All scholars must produce a research report following their stay at the GEI.

Scholars may conduct their research at the GEI at any time during the year 2009. The selection procedure will take place in November 2008.

Please send your application by 15th October 2008 to:
