2009 Travel Scholarships for Research on Africa: Nordic Universities
2009 TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR RESEARCH ON AFRICA: Researchers associated with Nordic universities, colleges and other research institutions, can apply for the scholarships. (Applications from Iceland are handled according to separate regulations.) They are mainly intended foryoung researchers, but applications from established researchers will also be considered. Applicants should havecompleted their basic academic education (= Bachelor degree).
The scholarships are intended for research and preparation of research projects. Research should concerndevelopment issues in Africa and emphasis is placed on the social sciences and closely related fields (anthropology,history, economics, human geography etc).Scholarships are intended to cover travelling expenses to Africa and to contribute to the cost of local travel and livingexpenses. Exceptionally, scholarships may be awarded for archive studies in Europe.
Pure natural science projects without a strong component of development research are not qualified. Thescholarships are not awarded for study visits, excursions, or participation in conferences. Funds to cover salaryexpenses cannot be applied for. Scholarships will not be awarded for fieldwork that has already been completedbefore January 15, 2009, the closing date. Scholarships are not awarded to the same project more than once.Language studies do not qualify for support.
A total of about 1 100 000 SEK is available. Between 30 and 40 scholarships, not exceeding the sum of 40 000 SEK,will be awarded.
Applications mailed to Nordiska Afrikainstitutet must be received at the latest by 15 January 2009. NAI does notaccept applications sent by fax. PLEASE NOTE! Incomplete applications will not be considered.
