Job Description: To promote international scientific interactions and innovative research, the ARVO Foundation for Eye Research (AFER) has established Collaborative Research Fellowships.

Applicant Eligibility: Applicant must be a citizen of and working in economically emerging country that has the capacity to support eye research beyond a one-time project.
Collaborator Eligibility: A US Collaborator may only be selected for one collaboration fellowship per year.
Specific Instructions for Application
The online form must be completed by the non-US researcher. The online form must be completed in one session.

1. Applicant Information: Complete all required fields. If you have a biosketch it may be uploaded, but it is not required.

2. Collaborating Researcher: Enter information on the US researcher you will be collaborating with on this project.

3. Project Information: The following elements should be developed with the Collaborator:

1. Title of Project

2. Goal: Statement of expected project outcome(s).

3. Research Capacity Assessment: Statement that you will have permission from the institution(s) to allot the required time, space and equipment to execute the project.

4. Project Timeline: The project period must commence within 6 (six) months of notification of the award and be completed within 1 (one) year of the start date.

5. Budget: an itemized budget must be included.
1. Awarded funds may not be used for equipment, institutional overhead or administrative fees.

2. Applicants funded under this program may use some of the funds to travel to the ARVO Annual Meeting if that is concurrent with a trip to the institution of the Collaborator.

3. ARVO will provide a complimentary registration to the ARVO Annual Meeting for the Applicant.

4. Funding Disclosure: Commercial relationships disclosure is required. Please refer to the ARVO Commercial Relationships Policy information on the ARVO website and enter the appropriate code, company information and funding level. If you have no Commercial Relationships to disclose enter “NONE.”

5. Official at Applicant’s Institution: The Applicant must provide the name of the individual at their institution who will sign-off on permission to perform the project, if selected.

4. Affirmations: Applicant must review the linked documents and affirm compliance with:
* ARVO Statement for the Use of Animals in Ophthalmic and Visual Research
* ARVO Statement on Registering Clinical Trials
* Declaration of Helsinki

5. Additional Information:
* US Collaborator must be a current ARVO member. ARVO will contact the collaborator for additional information after the application is submitted.
* Non-US Applicant must have completed terminal degree PhD, MD or equivalent within the past 10 years (2000 – 2010).
* A brief report citing progress made, including information regarding this project’s impact on the capacity to support eye research in the economically developing country, is due within ninety (90) days of the end of the project. A description of the use of the Fellowship funds and a final accounting must be included. Unused funds must be returned to the ARVO Foundation for Eye Research.
