2011 USAFP Research Abstract Application
Job Description: The meeting will be held in Palm Springs, CA during the week of 3 – 8 April 2011. To apply, all
proposals must be submitted in the proper format explained in the “Call for Papers Kit.”
PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE PREPARING YOUR
ABSTRACT AND APPLICATION FORM. Submissions that deviate from the following
instructions and guidelines will not be eligible for consideration.
All members of the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians are eligible to submit an
abstract for consideration — this includes medical students who have assisted in developing a
research project in conjunction with a mentoring physician and also including retired and
reserve physicians who are in the “adjunct member” category. The participant who actually
presents the paper should also be clearly noted on the application form along with his/her
current duty station.
Judges will eliminate themselves from reviewing any abstract, paper or presentation if they have
had active involvement in a project’s development, implementation or presentation.
Abstract acceptance and rejection letters will be e-mailed in late November 2010.

Special focus for 2011 competition: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain
Injury
The Clinical Investigation Committee (CIC) announces a special focus for 2011 on scholarly
works that focus on the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain
Injury (TBI) on the warfighter and/or their family members. Case reports, clinical investigations
and educational research projects are all eligible for consideration. Abstracts representing high
quality academic work that are PTSD or TBI focused will be considered ahead of those
abstracts not related to this topic. The research judges of the CIC have the final decision on
which abstracts will be accepted.
