2013 PhD Scholarships in Microalgal Biotechnology at University of Copenhagen in Denmark

Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science is pleased to offer PhD scholarships. Two PhD scholarships are being offered in microalgal biotechnology at University of Copenhagen. Researchers can be of any nationality. Applicants applying for the position must have M.Sc. degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or other relevant areas are required. The applicants are awarded the doctorate degree and are in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers.

Degree: M.Sc. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or other relevant areas is required. The applicants have at the time of recruitment not yet been awarded the doctorate degree and are in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers.
Mobility: The applicants must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc) in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the time of recruitment. Compulsory national service and/or short stays (such as holidays) are not taken into account.
Nationality: Researchers can be of any nationality as long as the rule of mobility is met.

Scholarship Open for International Students: International students can apply for this position.

Scholarship Description: The work within the two PhD fellowships will focus on optimization of photosynthetic electron generation and redirection of electrons to power the synthesis of mid-to-high-value bioactives. To meet this challenge more information is required on factors and processes controlling regulation of photosynthesis and biosynthetic genes of the bioactives. Two targets have been selected, which form the basis for a PhD project.

Selection Criteria: -Experiences with techniques in general molecular biology, biochemistry, algal and plant physiology, microbial genetics, and bioinformatics.
-Previous publications and proficiency in scientific communication skills.
-The grade point average achieved.
-Fluency in spoken and written English.
-Good interpersonal skills.
