Eligibility:
- The awards are open to UK, EU and overseas students commencing a PhD degree in the academic year 2013-2014.
- Only applications to year one of a PhD programme of study will be considered.
- Successful applicants are likely to hold a UK first class honours undergraduate degree (or overseas equivalent) in a relevant field and to have demonstrated a high academic achievement in a master’s degree in a relevant field. In addition, the research proposal should make a strong case for the originality, importance and feasibility of the project.

Scholarship Open for International Students: This Scholarship is open for UK, EU and International Students.

Scholarship Description: The School provides a stimulating and supportive research environment across a wide range of subject areas: Asian Studies, Celtic & Scottish Studies, English Literature, European Languages & Cultures, and Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies. We also offer an exciting range of cross-disciplinary PhD programmes including Film Studies, Trans-disciplinary Documentary Film and Translation Studies.

Number of awards offered: Ten Scholarships are offered.

Duration of award(s): Only applications to year one of a PhD programme of study will be considered.

What does it cover? The School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures is delighted to announce a new initiative that will see over £500,000 invested across the next three years in scholarships for outstanding PhD students joining the School’s vibrant postgraduate research community.

Selection criteria: The awards will be made based on academic merit.

Notification: The School will inform successful applicants in early March 2013.

Scholarship Application Deadline: Do submit your applications till 1st of February 2013.
