2014 International Doctoral Positions at Graduate School of East and Southeast European Studies, Germany

Applications are invited for doctoral positions to undertake research project at Graduate School of East and Southeast European Studies (either at the LMU Munich or at the University of Regensburg). Graduate School offers the following doctoral positions 5 Positions as a research fellow – employment according to the German TV-L in part time (65 %) and 5 PhD scholarships. These doctoral positions are available for two years with the option of extension for another eighteen months. Applications should be submitted till August 24th, 2014.

Study Subject(s):  The holders of both the doctoral positions and the scholarships will be expected to successfully conduct an independent research project which contributes to the Graduate School’s research fields. Research at the Graduate School is conducted in three broad interdisciplinary fields: Origins and Forms of Social and Political Change, Cultural Systems and Infrastructure, Migration and Transfer of Knowledge. Research at the Graduate School focuses particularly on interrelations and interdependencies between East and Southeast Europe and other regions of the world. In the context of its primary focus on East and Southeast Europe, the Graduate School draws on the following disciplines: History, Literary and Language Studies, Art History, Theater Studies, Political Science, and Law. In the context of cross-regional comparisons and transfer studies the School’s expertise in Area Studies is complemented by insights from Chinese, Japanese and North American Studies.

Eligibility:
-very good graduate degree (Master’s, Magister, German Diploma, State Examination or equivalent degree)
-independent research project within the fields of interest to the Graduate School
-interest in interdisciplinary research questions and sensitivity for transnational and spatial perspectives
-knowledge of German and English
-knowledge of a third language is preferred
-There is no age restriction.

Number of award(s): Graduate School offers the following doctoral positions 5 Positions as a research fellow – employment according to the German TV-L in part time (65 %) and 5 PhD Scholarships.

Duration of award(s): These doctoral positions are available for two years with the option of extension for another eighteen months. Research Fellow position includes a teaching obligation of one semester hour per week.

What does it cover? Grant-holders receive the DFG (German Research Foundation) maximum allowance of 1365 EUR per month plus an additional allowance for materials of 103 EUR. All types of insurance, including health insurance, must be paid for by the grant holder. Doctoral positions are paid for at the rate agreed in the TV-L pay scale at level E 13 (65 %).

Selection Criteria: Not Known

Notification: On 18th September 2014 the selection committee will decide which candidates will be invited for interview. If you are one of these, we will inform you. Interviews will take place on 2 October 2014 in Munich. Final decisions will be made in mid-October. They cannot notify any candidates of the status of their application until the whole procedure has been completed.
