Eligibility: -Only citizens of Papua New Guinea can apply.

Students who have already commenced postgraduate studies, or students transferring with credit exemptions and/or advanced standing, are not eligible.

Scholarship Description: University of SydneyDr W.M. Strong of Port Moresby, by his will in 1946, bequeathed his residuary estate amounting to £35,000 to the University of Sydney for the purpose of encouraging education and research in subjects relevant to the particular needs of the then territory of Papua. In Semester 1, 2014, one Walter Mersh Strong Scholarship is available to an academically meritorious postgraduate international student from Papua New Guinea, to undertake one of the following courses: Master of Agriculture, Master of Public Health, Master of International Public Health, Master of Education or Master of Social Work. The Scholarship recipient is invited to enjoy the Sydney experience at one of the finest institutions of higher education in the world.

What does it cover? -Tuition fees paid for the CRICOS registered duration of a recipient’s program of study, for one of the above programs offered at the University of Sydney (subject to the recipient maintaining satisfactory academic progress each semester)
-Living allowance (amount of 2014 allowance TBA; AUD$24,653 in 2013)
-One return airfare (for student only) between Port Moresby and Sydney
-Overseas Student Health Cover (for student only)
-Student Amenities Fee 2014
-Visa application fee (for student only)
-Advanced Skills for Academic Success Program (ASAS) (compulsory three week program commencing 30 January 2014)
-Book allowance (AUD$350 per semester for two semesters).

Selection Criteria: -Selection will be based strictly on academic merit as per the University’s admission requirements.-
-Selection will be based on actual results (academic and English language proficiency). Predicted/forecast results will not be considered.
-Only applicants with firm, unconditional offers of admission will be considered.
-Selection will be made by the Scholarship Selection Committee, whose decision will be final. No appeals will be entertained.

-An Application for Admission to the University of Sydney in Semester 1, 2014, will constitute an application for a Scholarship.

-Applicants who receive an Offer of Admission after this deadline will not be considered.
