NMRC Research Training Fellowship for Singaporean Candidates, 2015

Applications are invited for NMRC research training fellowships available to outstanding and talented clinicians, health science professionals (e.g., nurses, pharmacists) and biostatisticians. Fellowships are awarded for overseas research training or to pursue a graduate degree in research in local institutions. Applicants may apply for local training leading to a graduate degree (preferably PhD) or Overseas Research Attachment. Applicants must be either Singapore citizens or permanent residents and must be working in a public institution in Singapore. They will also be required to serve a bond with the Government of Singapore upon the completion of their training. The application deadline is 1 December for applicants.

Study Subject(s): Fellowship are awarded to train clinicians to have the qualifications and skills to become Clinician Scientists. To equip health science professionals (e.g., nurses, pharmacists) and bio statisticians with the qualifications and skills in scientific research to support Clinician Scientists in research.
Course Level: Fellowships are awarded for overseas research training or to pursue a graduate degree in research in local institutions.

Eligibility: Local Training Leading to a PhD or Master’s Degree and Overseas Research Attachment:
This category is open to a) medical doctors/dental surgeons who are registered with the Singapore Medical Council/Dental Board, b) health science professionals (e.g., nurses, pharmacists) and c) biostatisticians.
-Applicants must be either Singapore citizens or Permanent Residents, and must be working in a public institution in Singapore. They will also be required to serve a bond with the Government of Singapore upon the completion of their training.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Singaporean citizens or Permanent Residents are eligible to apply.

Duration of award(s): The award for local training leading to a graduate degree (preferably PhD) provides support over 2-3 years (extendable to 4 years for PhD degree) and for overseas research available for up to 4 years.

What does it cover?
Local Training Leading to a PhD or Master’s Degree:
Award value of up to S$500,000 per awardees over 2-3 years (extendable to 4 years for PhD degree).
-Salary and full tuition fees for part-time or local full-time PhD or master’s degree studies.
-Conference support of up to $4,000 per year during the period of training.
-Eligibility to apply for a research seed funding upon completion of training, of up to $30,000 (subject to the approval of a research proposal).
Overseas Research Attachment:
-Award value of up to S$500,000 per awardee of up to 4 years.
-Salary, tuition fees, maintenance allowance and others (e.g. return air travel, health insurance, in accordance to the institution’s guidelines).
-Conference support of up to $4,000 per year during the period of training.
-For an awardee who is supported for more than 12 months or longer for training, he/she is eligible to apply for research seed funding upon completion of training, of up to $30,000 (subject to the approval of a research proposal).

How to Apply: Applications should be submitted online via oGager. Please ensure that all submissions are endorsed by the Institution’s Head of Department and Institute’s Director/ CEO / Dean of Medical School and accompanied by the required supporting documents. (Applicants are advised to apply to the university of interest for their degree programme concurrently with this fellowship application to avoid delay in commencement of training.)

Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline is 1 December 2014 for applicant and 4 December 2014 for endorsements by the institution.
