Scholarship Description: University of OsloA Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Media Studies in the area of journalism and political communication is available at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo. Media Studies is defined here as the interdisciplinary study of the modern media, their form and content, institutions and use, their political, social, cultural and aesthetic contexts, using approaches from the Social Sciences and the Humanities. Journalism and political communication should be regarded as an area of Media Studies that includes research on political journalism, strategic communication and political rhetoric as well as on political communication as conditioned by the institutional and cultural environment.The successful candidate is expected to become part of the research environment of the department and contribute to its development. The main purpose of postdoctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

Number of award(s): One postdoctoral research fellowship will be available.

Duration of award(s): The appointment is for a period of four years and the position entails a 25% workload of teaching and administrative duties.

Selection Criteria: In the evaluation of the applications, emphasis will be placed on:
-the project’s scientific merit, research-related relevance and innovation
-the applicant’s estimated academic and personal ability to carry out the project within the allotted time frame and contribute to the main project
-good co-operative skills and the ability to successfully join in academic collaboration within and across disciplines.
