4-year PhD position in Geology
Subject: “Palaeoproterozoic Evolution of south-western Africa”
The position is available at Department of Earth Sciences, University of Gothenburg,

Project description:
The following broad questions and tasks have been defined:
1. Does the Kheis-Rehoboth Province contain evidence for a Palaeoproterozoic or
Mesoproterozoic Wilson Cycle? When did the main fabric of the Kheis Province form: 1.7 – 2.0
Ga, 1.2 – 1.0 Ga or at another time?
2. Find key localities in the Namaqua-Natal and Kheis-Rehoboth Provinces suitable for the
establishment of PTt paths.
3. With petrographic control, make accurate mineral analyses and use thermodynamic
software to calculate P-T conditions of metamorphism.
4. Do appropriate geochronology (U-Pb microbeam, Ar-Ar) to support modelling of PTt paths.
5. Participate in research collaboration on PTt paths in Africa and Scandinavia.
