A research position (PhD student position) for 3 years (TV-L E13 – 50% starting from January 2008 is available.
The main focus of this research project is pathogen-plant-interaction. The studies are performed on the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana which is infected with Agrobacterium tumefaciens. This bacterium either induces plant tumors or is utilized as biotechnological tool to generate transgenic plants. We want to know, if the host plant recognizes an infection with agrobacteria and how agrobacteria manipulate the pathogen defense mechanisms of the host plant to deliver its T-DNA into the plant cell. In the experiments protein-DNA interaction, chromatin immunoprecipitation combined with TILIG microarray analysis (ChIP-Chip) will be applied.
Candidates with interest in regulation of gene expression are encouraged to contact Dr. Rosalia Deeken. We are seeking highly qualified and motivated applicants with strong experimental lab skills in the field of molecular biology, microbiology, cell biology, or protein biochemistry. The language in the laboratory is English and German.
The Julius-von-Sachs-Institute, is located in the Botanical Garden of the University of Wuerzburg, and is an academic research institution with strong scientific emphasis on plant molecular physiology and biophysics, involved in various doctorial graduate training programs (for details go to: http://www.botanik.uni-wuerzburg.de/).
