The aim of the university is to examine the impact of the division between further and higher education on strategies to widen participation in undergraduate education.

  • Eligible Countries: Applicant must be a national of, or permanently domiciled, in one of the following countries or territories (Afghanistan, Angola, Armenia, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Ivory coast, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Kiribati, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Micronesia, Moldova, Mongolia, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Philippines, Rwanda, Samoa, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Swaziland, Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Viet Nam, West Bank and Gaza Strip, Yemen, Zambia and Zimbabwe) are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

  • Entrance Requirements:
  • You must hold an offer for one of the following courses to study at the University of Sheffield in 2022
    • MA Cities and Global Development
    • MA International Development
    • MSc in Environmental Change and International Development
    • MPH in International Development
    • MSc in International Social Change and Policy
    • MA Global and Political Economy
    • MA in International Politics
    • MA in Social Research
  • You must be classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes.
  • You must be self-funded to receive this award, i.e. not funded by a research council, government, private enterprise, charity or any similar organization.
  • This scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any other funding awards, either from the University of Sheffield or external sources.
  • Your mode of attendance must be full time.
  • You must begin your studies at the University of Sheffield in 2022. This scholarship cannot be deferred.
  • Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully meeting any condition(s) attached to your offer before the deadline provided by the Admissions Service.
  • Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully receiving a visa to study at the University in September 2022.
  • You must be a national of, or permanently domiciled, in one of the following countries or territories:

If applicants are presenting one of the qualifications listed in this table, it should have been completed no more than two years before of the start date of their Sheffield course.

How to Apply

  • How to Apply: In order to apply for the award, applicants are required to complete the postgraduate online application system and submit their application for an eligible course. They will be automatically considered for the scholarship if they receive an offer to study one of the eligible courses and they are a national of, or permanently domiciled in, one of the eligible countries or territories.
  • Supporting Documents: No additional documents would be asked by the university but there is a possibility of asking at the time of admission.
  • English Language Requirements: These are the qualifications most commonly presented by applicants. The minimum levels of achievement for postgraduate study are detailed below. However, different courses require different levels of achievement in these qualifications.
