Job Description: This Scholarship was established in 2000 through an endowment by Dr and Mrs Shannon of Hamilton, to provide financial support to an undergraduate student studying in the field of Biological Sciences.

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. Candidates must be majoring in Biological Sciences or in a specified programme including a major in Biological Sciences. They must be enrolled in no less than three papers in Biological Sciences in each year of tenure.

REGULATIONS
The Scholarship shall be known as the Anne Shannon Scholarship
2. The Scholarship shall have a value of $2,500 per annum and be tenable for a maximum of two years. The closing date for the Scholarship shall be 31 October.
3. The Scholarship shall be offered every second year on the basis of academic merit to a University of Waikato student entering their second year of full-time study.
4. Candidates for the Scholarship must be majoring in Biological Sciences or in a specified programme including a major in Biological Sciences. They must be enrolled in no less than three papers in Biological Sciences in each year of tenure.
5. Candidates will be eligible to receive the Scholarship for the second year provided that they continue to meet the enrolment criteria as set out above and that a minimum average grade of B+ is attained in the first year of tenure. Should the candidate not meet the criteria for continuation of the Scholarship into the second year of tenure, the Scholarship may be re-advertised and re-awarded.
6. Candidates for the Scholarship must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
7. The Selection panel for the Scholarship will comprise the School of Science and Engineering’s representative to the Scholarships Committee or nominee, the Chairperson of the Department of Biological Sciences or nominee, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Science and Engineering or nominee and, when possible, Dr Shannon.
8. The Selection Panel may refrain from making a recommendation if it finds no candidate of sufficient merit.
9. The Scholarship will be paid as a lump sum to the successful applicant in May of each year of tenure.
10. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Scholarships Committee on behalf of the Academic Board of the University of Waikato.
11. The Scholarships Committee may terminate a Scholarship at any time if it is satisfied that the holder is not following the approved programme of study or is not otherwise complying with the conditions governing the Scholarship. The holder of a Scholarship shall have the right to appeal to the Academic Board against any decision to terminate the award.
12. The Scholarship may be recognised at a function organised to promote Scholarships more widely throughout the University.
13. The Scholarship may be held with any other bursary, scholarship or award.
14. The University may from time to time vary these regulations, where possible after consultation with the sponsor, Dr Shannon.
