Anthony Rothe Scholarship 2010
Job Description:
The Trustees of the Anthony Rothe Memorial Trust invite applications for the Anthony Rothe Scholarship from postgraduate students eligible to enroll to undertake a full-time PhD in a University, or affiliated Public Hospital or Public Benevolent Institution in NSW.
The proposed research must be in accordance with the aims of the Trust, namely: into the causes, prevention, and treatment or cure of leukemia and allied blood disorders.
Amount awarded:
The stipend will be $28,000 per annum plus an allowance of $5,000 per annum towards costs and travel for the scholar. Maximum duration of award is three years.
The 32-year-old tenor is a New Jersey native and recently made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Alfredo in Verdi’s La traviata, opposite Angela Gheorghiu and has been hailed for having a voice of Italianate beauty, for his handsome stage presence, and for his elegant musicianship in performances with the leading opera companies of the world. Valenti’s repertoire encompasses the romantic leading roles of both Italian and French repertoire, including Puccini’s Rodolfo in La bohème and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Verdi’s Duke of Mantua and Alfredo, and Gounod’s Roméo and Faust. He is equally at home with the bel canto roles of Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor.
