Types of Scholarships:

AOPA Flight Training Scholarships: AOPA Foundation in support of the Flight Training Scholarship Program is offering this scholarship programe. To be eligible, applicant must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident. He must be at least 16 years of age at the time of application. Applicant must hold a current FAA Student Pilot Certificate at the time of application. He must be a current member of AOPA at both the time of application and when the scholarship is awarded. Military, student and AV8RS memberships are eligible to apply. Applicant must not have completed the FAA practical test/checkride at the time of application.

Aviation Scholarships:

Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Scholarships: EAA’s scholarship program encourages, recognizes and supports excellence among those studying the technologies and the skills of aviation. These annual scholarships help outstanding students who demonstrate financial need to accomplish their goals. Applicants should be well-rounded, involved in school and community activities as well as aviation. Academic records should show that you can successfully complete the educational activity for which you are applying. Please check individual scholarship descriptions for any special considerations.

National Air Transportation Association (NATA) Scholarships: The National Air Transportation Foundation (NATF), the research and educational arm of the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), offers several categories of scholarships. Pioneers of Flight Scholarship are granted to college students in their sophomore or junior year who are enrolled in a full-time aviation degree program at an accredited four-year college or university in the amounts of $1,000 each, are to be used for one year of full-time undergraduate study. Two awards will be granted each year.  Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship is granted to an initial or primary flight training student currently enrolled in an aviation program in the amount is $2,500, is to be used for the express purpose of initial or primary flight training. NATA Business Scholarship is granted to a NATA member company employee enrolling in a continuing education program for career advancement in general aviation in the amount of $2,500, is to be used for continuing education for employees of NATA member companies. Navigate Your Future Scholarship is granted to a graduating high school senior enrolled/accepted into an aviation-related program at an accredited college or university in the amount of $2,500, is to be used for one year of full-time undergraduate study. One award will be granted each year. Finally, Richard L. Taylor Flight Training Scholarship is granted to a college student, currently holding a private pilot’s license, which is enrolled in a flight program through an accredited college/university with aspirations to become a pilot in the amount of $1,500, is to be used for one year of full-time undergraduate study. One award will be granted each year.

National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Scholarships: The NBAA Charities scholarship program, generously supported by NBAA Member donors, offers nearly $100,000 annually in cash awards as tuition reimbursement for enrolled students and nearly the same amount in monetary and training awards for working professionals in business aviation, including pilots, maintenance professionals, schedulers, dispatchers, flight attendants and flight technicians. There are various other Scholarships for Students are also available under this. NBAA Charities currently offers the following scholarships to highly qualified students studying aviation-related curricula at institutions of higher learning.
Al Conklin and Bill de Decker Business Aviation Management Scholarship: This scholarship is available for undergraduate applicants. NBAA Charities and Conklin & de Decker annually award $5,000 to an undergraduate student who is officially enrolled in an aviation management program at a University Aviation Association (UAA) member school. Scholarships will be awarded for the 2015–16 academic year, and checks will be made payable to the school. Awards will be made to U.S. citizens or permanent residents without regard to sex, race, religion or national origin. Scholarship recipients must use the funds by Oct. 31, 2016, or risk forfeit of the award.
William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship: NBAA Charities annually awards $2,500 to each of two applicants pursuing careers as maintenance technicians. One award will benefit a student who currently is enrolled in an accredited airframe and powerplant (A&P) program at an approved FAR Part 147 school. The second award will benefit an individual who currently is not enrolled but has been accepted for enrollment in an A&P program.
Lawrence Ginocchio Aviation Scholarship: This scholarship is available to US citizens. NBAA Charities and the family and friends of Lawrence Ginocchio annually award $4,500 to each of five undergraduate students who are enrolled at NBAA/University Aviation Association (UAA) member institutions.
Eddie Queen Business Aviation Management Scholarship: Awards will be made to U.S. citizens or permanent residents without regard to sex, race, religion or national origin. Scholarship recipients must use the funds by Oct. 31, 2016, or risk forfeit of the award. NBAA Charities and Signature Flight Support will annually award $2,500 to an undergraduate student (sophomore or higher) who is officially enrolled in an aviation management program at a University Aviation Association (UAA) member school. Applicants must show a passion for aviation and demonstrate superior customer service skills, as Eddie Queen did.
UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship: Awards will be made to U.S. citizens without regard to sex, race, religion or national origin. Scholarships will be awarded by spring 2016, and checks will be made payable to the school. Scholarship recipients must use the funds by Dec. 31, 2016, or risk forfeit of the award. Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student (sophomore or higher) enrolled in an aviation-related two-year or four-year degree program at an NBAA and University Aviation Association (UAA) member institution with a cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.

National Gay Pilots Association Scholarships: The NGPA Education Fund (NGPA-EF) provides scholarships to aspiring aviators with the desire to develop professional aviation skills and ratings beyond the private pilot certificate, and who have demonstrated community involvement, including support of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.  Scholarship awards are paid directly to the educational institution or flight school, to offset the cost of the recipient’s training.  Awards are based in US Dollar amounts.  The number of awards may vary from year to year based on funding ability.  For one truly exceptional applicant each year, the Education Fund may award the David M. Charlebois Scholarship.

Ninety-Nines, International Organization of Women Pilots Scholarships: The NGPA Education Fund (NGPA-EF) provides scholarships to aspiring aviators with the desire to develop professional aviation skills and ratings beyond the private pilot certificate, and who have demonstrated community involvement, including support of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. To be eligible for an NGPA-EF Scholarship, an individual must be pursuing a career as a professional pilot, or seeking to enhance their professional piloting skills; be at least 18 years old at the date of application; and have earned at least a private pilot certificate.

University Aviation Association (UAA) Scholarship Listing: There are various scholarships available in the field of aviation. Awards will be made at the UAA Awards Banquet during the Fall Education Conference; Eugene S. Kropf Scholarship annually awards a $500 scholarship to applicants enrolled in an aviation related curriculum at a UAA member college or university; as well as Paul A. Whelan Scholarship Honoring Paul Whelan, this scholarship is aimed at supporting and encouraging men and women pursuing an education and future in aviation or space-related fields.

Women in Aviation, International Scholarship Listing: This scholarship is for U.S. citizens only, and then it is open for applicants of all nationalities. Men can apply for scholarships as well unless the sponsor specifies that the scholarship is for women only. Scholarship awards are a major benefit of membership in Women in Aviation, International. In the past 26 years WAI has disbursed millions of dollars to its members to help them get ahead and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers they have always dreamed about. It has offered up more than 111 incredible scholarships totaling more than $600,000 so far for 2016.

John Kounis Scholarship: AOPA is offering this scholarship to help student pilots with the cost of learning to fly. The program is a part of AOPA’s Flight Training Student Retention Initiative, which aims to grow the pilot population. This year, AOPA will award 25 scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $12,000. The eligibility requirements for applicants are very open. Basically any U.S. citizen or permanent resident over the age of 16 who has a passion for aviation is qualified.
