AstroMundus is an international Masters Course in Astronomy and Astrophysics that was selected by the European Commission as an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course within the 2009-2013 edition of the Erasmus Mundus programme and has been approved for continuation as an Erasmus+: Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree programme co-funded by the European Union.

The Masters course is open to students of all nationalities and is jointly offered by a Consortium of 5 Universities in 4 different countries:

  • The Institute of Astro- and Particle Physics, University of Innsbruck (Austria),
  • The Department of Physics and Astronomy “Galileo Galilei”, University of Padova (Italy),
  • The Astrophysics section of the Department of Physics, University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (Italy),
  • The Institute for Astrophysics, Faculty of Physics, University of Goettingen (Germany),
  • The Department of Astronomy, Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade (Serbia),

With the participation of 4 associated research institutions:

  • Astronomical Observatory of Belgrade (Serbia),
  • Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) – Gran Sasso Science Institute (L’Aquila, Italy),
  • Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) – Astronomical Observatories of Padova and Rome (Italy),
  • Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (Goettingen, Germany).

The programme has a duration of 2 years (120 ECTS credits) and is entirely taught in English.

The wide variety of expertise covered by our international partnership ensures an excellent educational level in all branches of Astrophysics.

We invite applications from top-ranked students of any nationality (see exception below) that either hold or are expected to obtain before August 2017 a Bachelor’s Degree (or a recognized equivalent Degree that certifies a period of studies of at least 3 years, corresponding to 180 credits in the European Credit Transfer System) in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Mathematics or closely related fields. A certified good knowledge of the English language is required.

Students selected for participation will carry out their studies in at least 2 and up to 4 of the AstroMundus consortium universities and will be finally awarded a Joint Master Degree (MSc), complemented with a Diploma Supplement, by all consortium universities they have studied at. The degree allows access to PhD programmes.

A number of scholarships are available for both European and non-European students. These are funded by the European Commission following the Erasmus+ scholarship scheme for Joint Masters Degrees and by the AstroMundus Consortium.

The selection of students is primarily based on excellence. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive base.
