BBSRC (Case) PhD Studentship: Application of Microarrays , UK
Job Description :Applications are invited for the above studentship which represents an exciting research collaboration between Pharmaspec Limited and Aston University.
Project Title : Application of Microarrays to develop an in vitro in vivo correlation screening toolbox
PharmaSpec is an independent company specialising in manufacturing unlicensed pharmaceutical products (‘specials’) tailored to specific short and long term needs of an individual or a group of patients by working closely with healthcare professionals to provide a cost-effective service. It is our mission to provide the highest calibre of pharmaceutical service to the patient by constantly adapting to the evolving health needs of the population. We have forged close links with NHS Trusts, community health centres and pharmacies to deliver an innovative service shaped around the needs of the individual ; thus allowing the patient to have the choice of where, when and how to get his/her medicine.
The formulation team within Aston have a strong background in the reformulation of medicines and application of genomic technologies such as microarrays to further understand the performance of these medicines in vitro.
In the 2008 RAE, the Drug Delivery group formed part of the Aston University Allied Healthcare and Professions submission which was ranked 3rd in the UK, based on volume of research given a 3* or 4* rating (internationally excellent and world-leading), out of 61 institutional submissions – underlining our research excellence.
The project, due to commence in October 2010, will investigate the application of microarrays to develop an in vitro in vivo correlation screening toolbox. The project aims to work towards an in vitro test that can predict the rate and extent of absorption of reformulated drugs taken up via the transporter network through the gastrointestinal tract, allowing drug permeability and absorption to be measured effectively.
