The world of online education is set to witness a pioneering effort in the field of online business courses.
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), in association with International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, has rolled out its e-learning platform. Named as ‘The ICC Academy’, it will offer specialised business courses to the people in Singapore and around the world.
The courses aim to cater the need of banking professionals and general audiences those who have an interest in trade and finance. ICC Academy plans on starting a faculty in banking and trade finance. It will include 600 banking experts from 110 countries.
With 70 online courses and two global certificates such as ‘Global Trade Certificate’ and ‘Certified Trade and Finance Professional Certificate’, the online program is the most powerful program in the field of trade and finance.
During the ICC Academy launch program, John Danilovich, Secretary General, ICC, said “It will help to fill a sort of ever-changing the skill gap, as there is always a need for banking employees to refresh their knowledge of what the financial regulatory environment is like.” Appreciating the initiative, Lim Hng Kiang, Trade and Industry Minister remained hopeful, “As Singapore continues to grow and prepare for the new challenges of the future, we remain committed to the development of deep, industry-relevant skills for our workforce, as part of the national Skills Future initiative.
The programs offered by the ICC will strengthen the effectiveness of our workforce and provide more opportunities for Singaporeans to undergo training to take on better jobs.”
The courses will mostly be taught by ICC experts and practitioners. The initiative targets 5,000 professionals around the world per year. Though the academy intends to support the mid-career professionals in Singapore to move ahead in career, the courses are open to professionals irrespective of their job profile and level of experiences.
Gradually, the academy shall include other courses such as international law. The members have to pay an annual fee of US$150, which will enable them to access over 70 courses such as Introduction to Trade Finance, Introduction to Guarantees, Introduction to Factoring, Introduction to Receivables Finance, Introduction to Supply Finance, Introduction to Documentary Credits, and Introduction to Documentary Collections.
The academy has received a grant in terms of seed capital to the tune of US$3mn from the IE.
The ICC Academy shall benefit from the ICC’s global network, which comprises over 6.5 million businesses and chamber of commerce in more than 130 countries.
This academy is expected to cater to the needs of corporate houses in terms of business intelligence, skill and professional development of people in the trade and finance sector and finally, create a strong network of professionals. It also aims to offer online business education in the remote regions where world-class professional education is a scarcity.
