British Chevening Scholarships for Study in UK 2010/2011 – Open Now
September 11, 2009
The Chevening Scholarships programme is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) through the British High Commission, Canberra and administered by the British Council. The programme offers outstanding graduates and young professionals the opportunity to study at UK universities.
The awards are made for one year’s formal study for a postgraduate qualification or for a shorter period of not less than three months to pursue private study or research at a university or similar institution in the UK.
The scholarship includes:
- a return economy airfare to the UK from any Australian city
- all compulsory academic fees
- monthly stipend
- book allowance
- thesis allowance
Candidates should have a strong undergraduate degree (emphasis is placed on applications with First or Second Class Honours). Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
Chevening scholarships are targeted towards a broad range of fields and disciplines. Priority is given to the following areas:
- Science and innovation
- New and renewable energy resources and energy security
- Global environmental issues
- Science policy
- Sustainable development
- Human rights
- Political science

I was employed under SRHB(Somali state regional health be roué) in one of the facilities under it(Jijiga Health Science College) to discharge my professional duties and responsibilities as a pharmacy department chair person and as an instructor. I served this community as an academic pharmacist for about a year then upon the request of the nearby and newly established university (JJU) in the region I was transferred to play my professional role as an instructor of pharmacology, Biochemistry and other related courses for undergraduate Nurses and public health students(in east Africa its known as Health officers), After I joined the university almost for about a year it was my most challenging times in my new life b/se the university was newly established with less human resources. so all duties and responsibilities of the college were also left on my shoulder as the pharmacy department was established by my great effort while I was in the college, so that my day and night dream was all about how to strengthen the newly established pharmacy department at the college as well as the health faculty at JJu, just not only to be an instructor at both places.
In terms of research, so far except my undergraduate thesis, as there is no research oriented fertile scientific ground in the university and insignificant senior experts to consult with, I did not do any scientific research apart from the curricular activities. However my academic background as a pharmacology instructor, role to establish the pharmacy department and my significant role to strengthen the public health faculty and the scarcity of human resources in the region particularly in my profession make apparent to me that a masters program in in clinical pharmacy/pharm D is the most appropriate for me in further facilitating my career development. For this reason I would like to apply for masters of clinical pharmacy or pharmaceutical care program concentrating on clinical pharmacy.
I am interested in studying at your University of clinical pharmacy or pharm D in great Britain on clinical pharmacy or pharm D. More over, your university has long enjoyed prestigious academic positions and has been doing pioneering work in improving health service system and reducing health risks throughout the world including my home country Ethiopia.
