Job Description : APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Candidates should send the following by email to JOBS@cister-isep.info:

* detailed CV (including course grades and Bachelor/Licenciate/MSc degree GPA);
* research statement;
* 2-3 recommendation letters (preferred) or contacts that could be used for obtaining recommendation;
* transcripts of academic qualifications achieved;
* TOEFL and GRE scores, if applicable.

We will start evaluating candidates after April 7 and plan to conduct interview late April and early May announcing results shortly after that.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The positions are for up to four years contract. Salary will be up to 14,400.00€ (after taxes) per year. Other benefits include social security, 25 days of paid vacation and productivity awards and access to institutional private health insurance. The CISTER/IPP-HURRAY research facilities and expertise offer an excellent research environment for acquiring research skills.
REQUIREMENTS:

The candidates should have a Bachelor, Licenciate, or MSc degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related fields like Electrical Engineering with strong focus on Computer Engeneering. GRE and TOEFL are welcome. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Candidates holding a Bachelor/Licenciate degree with a GPA (Grade Point Average) greater or equal to 75% are preferred.
PHD STUDIES:

PhD students of the CISTER Research Unit are usually enrolled in the PDEEC PhD program at the University of Porto, which will also award the PhD on successful completion of the studies. The PDEEC program requires classwork during the first year of studies. Please refer to the PDEEC website for details.
BACKGROUND:

The CISTER Research Unit focuses its activity in the analysis, design and implementation of real-time and embedded computing systems. The unit is based upon the IPP-HURRAY Research Group (HUgging Real-time and Reliable Architectures for computing sYstems), which was created in 1997, and has since grown to become the most prominent research group of the School of Engineering (ISEP) of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP), and one of the leading European research groups in the area of real-time and embedded computing systems. CISTER is not only an internationally recognised group but also an international group, with people hailing from all continents bar Antarctica.

Research work in these areas span from scheduling algorithms, analysis methods, single and multiprocessor operating systems work, component-based real-time systems, hierarchical scheduling, power management, software concurrency in languages, and real-time middleware to quality-of-service in WSNs, link quality estimation and scalable data processing. Individual topics can be discussed with potential supervisors after an initial assessment of the candidates.
