Cancer Biology PhD Position at Ulm University Germany

Ulm University is inviting applicants for the Cancer Biology PhD Position at Ulm University in Germany.

In a multidisciplinary and international research group (group leader: Prof. Simone Fulda), we are studying apoptosis signalling in cancers to identify key molecules that regulate apoptosis in cancer cells. We aim at translating our knowledge into the development of new cancer therapeutics and novel prognostic biomarkers with a focus on malignant brain tumours

    Dear Dr.,
I am an Egyptian student and working as Assistant Lecturer of biochemistry, chemistry department, Faculty of Science, Helwan University, Ain Helwan, Cairo, Egypt.
I have a Master degree in “biochemistry” under thesis title :
” Effect of Some Semi Synthetic Compounds on The Proliferation Capacity and Cell Cycle of Hepatocellular Carcinoma”

    The master research included:

    1. The treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (Hep-G2) cells with our compounds, in an attempt to identify their anti-tumor activities, using MTT cytotoxic assay that was detected by ELISA reader.

    2. Apoptosis and cell cycle was evaluated by flow cytometer and the determination of caspase 3 and 9 level was carried out by colorimetric protease assay.

    3. Exploring the cytotoxic effects of our compounds indicated that they led to a major time-dependent disturbance in the cell-cycle phases including progressive arrest in S and G2/M-phases. This disturbance was found to be associated with a kinetic induction of apoptosis through activated caspase-dependent cell death in Hep-G2 cell line.

During my master study, I got the following research experiences & Skills:

•Good experience in the field of cancer biology and cell culture.
•Dealing with human tumor cell line (Maintenance of the cell line in the laboratory, harvesting of the cells, trypsinization procedure, counting of the viable cells & cryopreservation of cells).
•Good knowledge in principles, application and methodology of flow cytometry technique.
•Designing a research proposal, evaluating results, and interpretate findings.
•Cooperation with colleagues led to have successive research results.
•Well-training on working in a team and in a self dependant-manner.

I am very interested in this field, I want to proceed my doctoral studies (PhD) on cancer biology under your guidance and supervision at a German University .
Provided the opportunity, I would like to assure you that I will concentrate myself to the ongoing research program of yours. I am looking forward to your responses.

    With respectful regards
    Sincerely Yours
    Rania El-Lethy

    Dear Dr

While reviewing the your university website I came across your research on the Cancer and your research assistant position within this study. I was immediately drawn to your topics of interest as well as the specific articles that you have recently published.

As a Cell and Molecular Biology concentrator focusing on this specific area, I would very much like to be considered for this position .

My MSc Thesis has focused about the NGAL that play important role in cancer and apoptosis and Bacteria-static effect.

My Biology coursework has centered around Conservation as highlighted on my resume. This academic background has also prepared me for field research. I have taken multiple Immunology and Biotechnology and Human genetics classes which have enabled me to improve my research skills as well as my analytical abilities. , I am confident that I could make a strong contribution to your research department.

Thank you for your consideration of my credentials.
