July 14, 2008PhD-student position available at Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht
Job-description
The Maastricht Atrial Fibrillation Research Alliance affiliated to the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (at Maastricht University) is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious PhD-student to conduct a research project on the pathophysiology of cardiac arrhythmias, specifically atrial fibrillation.
The project involves
• Molecular and cellular mechanisms of atrial remodeling.
• The role of Ca2+ as trigger of atrial arrhythmias and mediator of atrial remodeling.
• Diagnosis of the substrate of atrial fibrillation in animals models and patients using innovative mapping techniques.
• Optical mapping of membrane voltage and intracellular Ca2+ and Na+ concentration during atrial fibrillation.
• Further investigation of atrial-specific repolarising currents as drug targets for atrial fibrillation.
We especially would like to encourage young MDs with ambitions in clinical research to apply for the positions (Dutch language skills required). Integration of research activities in a clinical training program in cardiology (electrophysiology) is possible.
Requirements
• University degree in medicine, biology, biomedical engineering or a comparable degree in life sciences.
• Be informed of relevant (scientific) developments within the named fields
• Keen analytical ability; profound research affinity
• Very flexible, motivated and enthusiastic
• Good writing skills, good communication skills
• Animal caretaker degree (Art.12 or Art.9) is preferred
Organization
The Maastricht Atrial Fibrillation Research Group is a network of scientists dedicated to research on atrial arrhythmias. The alliance is affiliated to the Academic Hospital and the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. Its mission is to explore the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation and to develop new diagnostic tools as well as therapeutic approaches both in animal models and in patients. The alliance closely co-operates with a variety of national, European and transatlantic networks of internationally recognized experts. The networks are financed by the Dutch Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), the Center for Translational Molecular Medicine (CTMM), the Dutch Research Organisation (NWO), the European Union (EU), and the Leducq Foundation.

Hi,
I have completed my postgraduation in Pharmacology and Toxicology from, Bombay Veterinary College, Mumbai. My M.V.Sc research topic was In vitro screening of Qt prolonging drugs for thrir arrhythmogenic potential in iasolated rabbit heart. I am extremely intrested to do PhD in Cardiovascular research Institute. Can you give in formation about your institute as well as other which will provide fellowship for PhD.
Eith Regards.

Hi,
I have completed my postgraduation in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Bharati Vidyapeeth, India. My research topic was Evaluation of Cardio protective activity of IND-08 and Coenzyme Q10 on chemically and experimentally induced cardiotoxicity
and cardiac hypertrophy in laboratory animals.
In Which I have studied Antiarrythmic Effect of Coenzymes Q-10 and IND-08 by measuring Concentration of digitalis (µg/kg) required to produce ectopic beat, ventricular fibrillation, and cardiac arrest. Parameters were measured from ECG recording using 8 channels Power Lab System (AD Instruments Pty Ltd, Unit 13, 18-22 Lexington Drive, Bella Vista NSW 2153, Australia). I am extremely intrested to do PhD in Cardiovascular research Institute. Can you give in formation about your institute as well as other which will provide fellowship for PhD.
Eith Regards.

Respected Sir/ Madam,
It gives me immense pleasure in informing you that the *veterinary
Pharmacology and Toxicology*
department at Bombay Veterinary College, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India is
the pioneering & leading institute in India in the field of
Pharmacology and Toxicology. It is developed to train manpower having
a broad overview of the different aspects of Pharmacology and
Toxicology and to prepare students to take up their research career
in specific areas of Toxicology as well as in Pharmacology research.
I am a student of the same department (Dept. of Pharmacology and
Toxicology) of M.V.Sc. I have acquired a basic knowledge of General
Pharmacology, Physiology, Immunobiochemistry, Pathology,
Cardiovascular pharmacology as well as toxicology. I also have
acquired practical training in the above aspects as well as research
methodology and computational skills. I have exposed to handling
of Laboratory animals, their dosing by various routes, Various
toxicity studies, Experimental pharmacology study, To the some extend
Handling of High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC),
Histopathological techniques. I have acquired familiar with ECG
interpretation as well their recording in Laboratrory animals etc.
During my M.V.Sc. thesis work I have done Screening of QT prolonging
drugs for their arrhythmogenic potential in anesthetized rabbits. And
Stadardization rabbit animal models for Torsade de pointes in vivo as
well as in vitro. I have an Industrial experience (training) of
working in Safety Pharmacology under the department of Drug Safety
Evaluation at Ranbaxy Research Laboratry, Gurgaon, India.
In view of the outstanding contribution of your organization in field
of advanced research in Bioscience or pharmacology or toxicology, I
request you to kindly suggest me the procedure and formalities to
undergo to join your company or institute for my research career
(PhD). I shall be highly obliged getting a place to work in your
Institue or company.
