The Churchill Trust offered fellowships to Australians who are desirous to design their own research project overseas in their chosen field. Fellowships are for those students who are innovative, filled with a spirit of determination and possess a strong desire to benefit their community. 20 February 2013 is the closing date for the submission of applications.

Eligibility: – be an Australian Citizen over the age of 18
-not be enrolled in tertiary studies directly related to the topic of your proposed project
-have experience in and commitment to the field of your project
-have a project of 4 weeks to approximately 6 weeks length that requires overseas investigation
-be willing to disseminate the results of your research to the broader Australian community
-not have been awarded a Churchill Fellowship in the past

Scholarship Open for International Students: The Churchill Fellowships are offered to Australian citizens.

Scholarship Description: The Churchill Trust was established in 1965 to honour the memory of Sir Winston Churchill by awarding overseas research Fellowships known as ‘Churchill Fellowships’.Since its inception The Churchill Trust has awarded Churchill Fellowships to more than 3,700 Australians who, like Churchill, are innovative, filled with a spirit of determination and possess a strong desire to benefit their community. A number of sponsored Churchill Fellowships are offered each year, usually confined to a particular field of endeavour. All applicants with an appropriate project are considered for the award of a sponsored Churchill Fellowship as well as a non-sponsored Churchill Fellowship. Churchill Fellowships allow you to design your own research project, travel the world and further your knowledge in your chosen field, before returning to make a real contribution to Australian society. The applicant will be responsible for obtaining all necessary passports, visas and other travel documentation.

Number of award(s): Over forty sponsored fellowships are offered each year.

Duration of award(s): A Churchill Fellowship is a remarkable opportunity to travel overseas for a minimum of four and a maximum of about six weeks.

What does it cover? The value of every Fellowship is different as it is calculated based on the number of countries visited, the duration of the approved Fellowship and an estimated airfare. The average is currently well in excess of $20,000.

Selection criteria: Every application is assessed based on merit, a demonstrated need for the proposed research, the perceived benefit to Australia and a willingness to share the overseas findings and knowledge with the Australian community.

Notification: After applications have closed all applicants are sent an official acknowledgement of receipt via email or post. Based on the initial assessment applicants are short-listed for interview. Applicants who have not been selected for an interview will be notified as soon as possible.

How to Apply: Online and postmarked applications must be submitted before 20 February 2013.

Scholarship Application Deadline: Applications for study in 2013/14 are due by February 8, 2013.
