Clinical Training Fellowships at University of Toronto in Canada, 2014-2015

University of Toronto is inviting application for clinical fellowships to take up training in all programs available within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. In addition to subspecialty training, trainees will participate in applied laboratory research projects and/or basic research. Fellowships are available for one or two years. Prior to applying to a program, applicants from these countries must have the approval of the sponsor involved, and the sponsor must contact the Faculty of Medicine Postgraduate Medical Education Office (PGME) with approval. All applications are due September 1 of the year prior to the next session start date.

Eligibility:
-Specialist Status: Applicants must have completed residency training in the base specialty, base subspecialty, or a complimentary specialty, prior to commencing fellowship training in LMP.
-Medical Practice License: Training may involve work with patients and/or patient records. Applicants must have a valid Certificate of Registration for Postgraduate Education from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) or a valid CPSO Independent Practice License.
-Malpractice Insurance: Applicants must have malpractice insurance with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA). Coverage can be obtained once the CPSO Certificate of Registration is issued.
-Work Permit (VISA): Applicants who are neither Canadian citizens nor Permanent Residents require a work permit. The Faculty of Medicine Postgraduate Medical Education Office provides the necessary document(s) as required from the Canadian government office (Canadian Embassy, Consulate, High Commission, etc.) in the applicant’s country of origin. There is a non-refundable visa-processing fee at the time of application.
-Language Requirements: International applicants whose first language and/or language of medical school and patient care was neither English nor French, are required to take the TOEFL iBT. Minimum acceptable scores are an overall score of 93 with a minimum score of 24 on the Speaking section. Test results must be submitted at the time of application to the training program and must have been taken within the last two years. Applicants who completed residency in Canada are not required to submit TOEFL score.
-Pre-Entry Assessment Program: International Medical School Graduates must complete the Pre-Entry Assessment Program (PEAP) prior to commencing a Clinical Fellowship training program. The program is from four to 12 weeks in duration and is administered by LMP faculty.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Canadian and international citizens can apply for these Clinical Fellowships.

Scholarship Description: Clinical Fellows must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) to take up training at the University of Toronto. The Postgraduate Dean, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto does not support acceptance of the MCCEE as an alternative to specialist recognition.

Regardless of the source of funding, foreign national applicants must be remunerated at a rate commensurate with that of a Canadian performing the same duties in the same location of work as the foreign national.
