The Creswick Foundation was established in 1952 with a view to:

improving knowledge in Australia of emotional, social and psychological problems affecting children and adolescents and their families and communities and
giving guidance to those involved in treating and preventing such conditions.

The Foundation pursues these aims by awarding Fellowships to Australian- based practitioners to travel overseas to gain knowledge and experience and funding visits by experts from overseas to provide up-to-date information on developments with which they are familiar. The Foundation seeks outcomes that range from immediate practical benefit to longer term benefit, including policy.

It looks for the widest possible sharing of findings resulting from activities that it funds.

The Foundation welcomes applications from throughout Australia.

It is essential that applications demonstrate the relevance of proposals to the fields of interest of the Foundation.

Fellowships for overseas study:

Fellowships awarded by the Foundation enable successful applicants to spend up to three months in one or more approved locations overseas to gain knowledge and experience in the Foundation’s fields of interest. The costs of return air fares and living expenses are covered. Subject to receiving applications of sufficient quality, the foundation expects to have at least $50,000 to award for this purpose this year.

Applications are invited from practitioners and researchers in fields such as (but not limited to) medical, health, mental health, allied health and education.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate that they have contributed to their field of activity, propose a relevant and realistic itinerary and undertake a program to develop both their own work and (as a result of the dissemination of their findings after their return) the activities of others in their field when their Fellowship is completed. Fellowship holders are expected to provide a report to the Foundation after their return.

Bringing Overseas Expertise To Australia:

The Foundation seeks proposals from institutions to bring people from overseas with knowledge, experience and expertise in the Foundation’s areas of interest to Australia. Preferably such people will have first-hand experience of the activities it is proposed they describe. Given the Foundation’s interest in the widest possible dissemination of ideas, proposals are sought which involve itineraries with sufficient audience, interest group and geographic ‘spread’ that an assurance is provided that significant numbers of practitioners and policy makers (as appropriate) will be involved.
