Design of a CMOS-Based Platform for Extracellular Recording

Job Description : At the Chair of Sensor Systems within the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at TU Berlin semiconductor and CMOS-based sensors are developed for biomedical purposes. This is done together with academic and industrial partners from material sciences, bio physics, bio chemistry, and medicine within the framework of national and Europe-wide interdisciplinary cooperative projects.

In this context openings are available as

PhD Student

The openings are full-time positions, salary: BAT II a.

The related research area is aiming to develop CMOS chips with large arrays of sensor sites to detect nerve signals from neural tissue and to stimulate it with high spatiotemporal resolution. Emphases are on the application of error compensation techniques and low noise design in the analog domain, on the development of an array of ADCs with each ADC fitting into the pitch of the rows of the array, and on the design of a suitable interface for data transfer with an external PC-based system.

Applicants must have a diploma or a master’s degree from a university in electrical engineering or in a similar discipline with excellent grades. A background in mixed-signal CMOS circuit design is required as well good English skills.
