Diploma Project in Genome Stability and Tumourigenesis Germany 2008
Our lab is interested in processes contributing to the maintenance of genomic integrity.
Fanconi Anaemia (FA) is a rare hereditary human disorder characterised by developmental defects, bone-marrow failure, genomic instability and cancer predisposition. Despite it is nowadays widely accepted that the FA complex plays a role in resumption of stalled replication forks upon DNA damage its precise function is still largely obscure. Studies on model organisms will help to understand mechanisms leading to human diseases. FancM is the only member among the so far identified 13 FA complementation groups that is conserved form yeast to man with Mph1 as its homologue in S. cerevisiae. In fission yeast two sequence homologues of FancM and Mph1 can be found.
We offer a diploma project to students interested in mechanisms of genome stability and tumourigenesis. The project aims to characterise the FancM homologues of S. pombe. To this end you will acquire a broad range of molecular and biochemical techniques and as well in yeast genetics. More information upon request (gern auch auf deutsch).
