DiSylvester Memorial Scholarship – 2008 Guidelines

In keeping with our commitment to spreading the TruDifference in the communities we serve, TruWest Credit Union introduced the DiSylvester Memorial Scholarship in 2005. Peter DiSylvester was the CEO of TruWest from 1974-1997. He was known for his kindness and dedication to increasing financial awareness and overall education. After his passing it seemed fitting to dedicate the new scholarship program to him.

The Scholarship was created for students entering their junior year of college. TruWest feels there is a lack of scholarships available for upperclassmen and this will provide them a great opportunity to help pay for their final years as an undergraduate.

General Scholarship Information

* Three (3) 2-year scholarships will be awarded in 2008. Two (2) will be awarded to Arizona State University students and one (1) will be awarded to a University of Texas student.
* Scholarship applications will be accepted from Arizona State University and University of Texas sophomores who will attain junior status in the following semester. Junior status will be based upon the existing criteria for the respective university.
* Each year, the winners will receive $2,500. The funds will be paid directly to the college to help pay for the winner’s tuition. These funds will be paid in two $1,250 installments, providing the student maintains good academic standing.
* Winners will be notified from the Scholarship Committee by April 4, 2008.
* Funds will be paid directly to the educational institution indicated on the application when enrollment begins for the fall semester. In order for funds to be disbursed, proof of enrollment must be provided to the TruWest Scholarship Committee.

Selection Criteria

* Must be a fully admitted, full-time sophomore who will attain junior-level status in the following semester.
* Must be in a degree-bound program at Arizona State University or University of Texas.
* Cumulative 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 point scale).
* Must be pursuing first undergraduate degree.
* No criminal record.
* Must be a U.S. Citizen

TruWest Credit Union employees, Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee members of TruWest Credit Union and/or immediate family members are ineligible to apply.

All entries must be postmarked by March 14, 2008.

2. With the application, submit a transcript or other validated record of your cumulative GPA.
3. With the application, submit an essay which includes the following:
* Brief overview of yourself and your career goals.
* How is a credit union different from other financial institutions?
* Describe your involvement in school and community activities.
* Why you think you should be selected for this scholarship award.
