Doctoral Positions-University of Freiburg

April 16, 2008

The trinational Research Training Group ‘Membrane Proteins and Biological Membranes’ (GRK 1478), a common initiative of the University of Freiburg, Germany, the University of Basel, Switzerland, and the University of Strasbourg, France, invites applications for doctoral positions at the University of Freiburg.

The Excellence University of Freiburg is one of the leading German Universities in Biology, Chemistry, Medicine and Pharmacy. The GRK consists of groups from the Faculty of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Earth Sciences, the Faculty of Biology and the Faculty of Medicine and is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The participating groups from the University of Basel are based in the Faculty of Chemistry and in the Biocenter, the groups from the University of Strasbourg are located at the Institute of Chemistry and the Ecole supérieure de Biotechnologie of Strasbourg.

Our GRK combines existing research/teaching programs in chemistry, medicine and life-sciences and offers practical modules in novel technologies. The GRK will have about 30 doctoral students at each location working in the field of Membrane Proteins and Biological Membranes. The characterization of membrane proteins and their interaction with biological membranes is a highly challenging and emerging research field with medical impact. To comprehensively understand the assembly and functioning of membrane proteins as a result of their unique structures and specific membrane environment, a large number of novel, ‘state-of-the-art’ techniques will be jointly applied within the trinational GRK.
