Job Description: The Research Doctorate Programme in Management seeks to produce international level business economists capable of contributing to the advancement of knowledge and extending the frontiers of research in the managerial field and with the aim of pursuing academic or professional careers with leading companies, consultancy firms, financial institutions, international institutions, economic policy bodies and regulatory authorities.

The research areas are:

*business strategy
*business organisation
*management and funding of technological innovation
*Information systems
*marketing management
*corporate governance and auditing systems;
*internationalisation of businesses;
*public management.

Applicants for the research doctorate programme referred to in the preceding article must have a master’s degree, an Italian bachelor’s degree under the former university system or an analogous academic qualification awarded abroad that is officially recognised in advance by the academic authorities if not already deemed to be officially equivalent. Recognition is subject to the applicant’s expressly requesting such in the application and submitting documents to that end to enable the admissions commission to grant equivalence (translated, legalised and accompanied by the statement of equivalent value issued by the Italian diplomatic or consular authorities abroad in accordance with the law in force).

Applicants who will be awarded their qualifying degrees by and no later than 30 November 2010 may sit the admission exam. In this case admission will be “with reserve” and the applicant must by the exam date submit either the degree certificate or certification (including self-certification under Presidential Decree No.445 of 28 December 2000) specifying the date that discussion of the degree thesis is scheduled for, failing which the applicant will be excluded.

Applications to participate in the competition, using solely the form annexed to this notice, must be addressed to the Rector of LUISS Guido Carli and handed in or sent to Ricerca e Didattica, LUISS Guido Carli, Viale Romania 32, 00197 Rome, by 3 September 2010.

Applications sent by registered post (with return receipt) by the deadline will be deemed to have been submitted in time, with the postmark serving as proof of date of submission.

Applicants must under their own responsibility specify the following information in the application form, failing which the application will be rejected:
1. name and surname, date and place of birth, place of residence, and personal tax and social security number;
2. citizenship;
3. master’s degree or four-year bachelor’s degree held, indicating the title, supervisor’s name and date on which it was awarded or the equivalent qualification awarded by a foreign university, attaching the degree certificate and academic record transcript showing exams passed;
4. the date the academic qualification is scheduled to be awarded, for those who have yet to graduate, attaching the academic record transcript showing exams passed;
5. knowledge of foreign languages;
6. that the applicant undertakes to attend the doctoral programme full time in accordance with the rules that will be set by the Academic Board;
7. that the applicant has no criminal record, or if this is not the case an indication of which offences the applicant has been convicted of;
8. that the applicant is not a public sector employee;
9. that the applicant has / has not previously benefited from other grants (including for just one year) for a doctoral programme;
10. that the applicant has read the entire competition notice;
11. a contact address for the purposes of the competition (specifying the postcode, a telephone number and e-mail address), with an express undertaking to promptly advise of any changes of address.

The application must be accompanied by:
- a certificate of GMAT or GRE scores (if available);
- a certificate evidencing knowledge of the English language (if no GMAT or GRE is available);
- two reference letters;
- a hard copy of the master’s degree or four-year bachelor’s degree thesis or a hard copy of draft of the said thesis for applicants who have yet to graduate;
- any academic publications;
- evidence of any other qualifications;
- a curriculum vitae.

Grants

The places on offer, totalling ten, will be financed as follows on the basis of the ranking order of the applicants as determined in accordance with the third paragraph of article 5 hereof:

-4 grants will be funded by LUISS Guido Carli;-

-1 grant will be funded by the “Silvana Paolini Angelucci” foundation (the beneficiary must fulfil theconditions set forth in article 10, paragraph 2, of Legislative Decree No. 460/1997).

Details of any other grants will be communicated in a timely manner.
The amount of each single grant will be determined in accordance with article 1, paragraph 1, subparagraph a), of Law No. 315 of 3 August 1998 as amended. In 2009 grants were worth € 13,638.47 each. In the event of a tie, preference will be afforded to the applicant with the poorest economic situation as determined in accordance with Primeministerial Decree of 30 April 1997 as amended.

Grants are awarded for the entire duration of the programme and the amount thereof is increased by 50% per day for authorised and documented periods abroad.
