Job Description: The Laboratory of Radiochemistry is the only radiochemical university institute in Finland and is one of the largest radiochemistry university units worldwide. Radiopharmaceutical chemistry is an important research and teaching topic of the unit. The research group in radiopharmaceutical chemistry develops new radiotracers for positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission tomography (SPECT).
Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry, Laboratory of Radiochemistry is seeking candidates for a position of
DOCTORAL STUDENT
in radiopharmaceutical chemistry for a period of three years starting in autumn 2010, preferably from 1st of September.
The doctoral student will work in an Academy of Finland funded research project entitled “Radiotracers for imaging in drug delivery” with a three-year funding. Specific tasks of the student include organic synthesis and radiolabelling using positron emitting and gamma emitting radionuclides. Tasks may include also biological evaluation of the novel tracers.
Qualification requirements include master level degree in radiochemistry, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or pharmacy, and high motivation to work in a multi-disciplinary environment. Previous experience in handling open radioactive sources is an advantage but it is not required.
The salary will be based on level 2 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel at the University of Helsinki. In addition, the doctoral student will receive a salary component based on personal work performance.
The application should be written in English and include a one page letter of motivation summarizing the applicant’s interest to radiopharmaceutical chemistry and a CV with a study record and contact information for two persons that can give a recommendation.
