Dr. Karl C. Ivarson Scholarship in Soil Science, Canada
Job Description :
Purpose and Background:The Dr. Karl C. Ivarson Scholarship was created by Dr. Karl C. Ivarson to support students pursing studies insoil science in Canada. Dr. Ivarson worked as a soil scientist with the Soil Research Institute, Soil BiochemistrySection. In 1978 he was transferred to the Chemistry and Biology Research Institute where he probed andresolved many problems of the effect ofmicrobial activity on mineral transformations in soils.
Objective
To provide financial support to students entering second or subsequent years of post graduate studies in soil
science (in areas of agriculture, agro-ecology, resource management, environment, geology or other related
disciplines) at a recognized Canadian University. There will be a minimum of one scholarship of at least $2000
annually. The number of scholarships will depend on the income generated from Dr. Ivarson’s gift to AICF. In
2010 there will be two $2000 scholarships offered.
Tenure
The scholarship is tenable for full-time study in the 2010-11 academic year at any recognized Canadian
university.
Eligibility
Candidates must hold Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status. They must be registered full-time in a
masters or doctorate program in the area of soils science – (agriculture, agro-ecology, resource management,
environment, geology or other related disciplines) be enrolled in their graduate program until at least one
semester beyond the application deadline. Previous recipients of this scholarship are not eligible for a second
award. Applicants may pursue course work electronically on- line or by attending classes on campus.
Selection Criteria
Selection of scholarship recipients will be based solely on information provided as part of the application. No
restrictions are placed on scholarship applicants holding other grants or awards or receiving assistance or
income from other sources.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of (not necessarily placed in order of importance): academic
achievement, areas of study, leadership, and career interests.
Administration of Award Program
The program is administered by the AIC Foundation through its Education Committee.

If additional space is needed, use a separate sheet. Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions and
a letter from the university confirming enrolment in your current program are required.
