The French School of Far East (EFEO-École française d’Extrême-Orient) offers EFEO field research scholarships to carry out research in the field of humanities or social sciences applied to the history and civilizations of Asia.

The French School of Asian Studies was founded in 1900 in Saigon. The mission of the EFEO is interdisciplinary research on the civilizations of Asia, extending from India to Japan. A network of seventeen research centers in twelve Asian countries allows its 42 research scholars (anthropologists, archaeologists, linguists, historians and others) to carry out their fieldwork while maintaining a network of local specialists and Asianists from around the world.

Course Level: The scholarship is available for pursuing research program.

Study Subject(s): The scholarship is offered in research in humanities or social sciences applied to the history and civilizations of Asia.

Scholarship Award: A monthly stipend varying between 700 and 1 360 € according to the academic level of the applicant (MA or PhD student) and the country of field research in Asia.

Scholarship can be taken in Scholarships are tenable in EFEO Centres in Asia.

Eligibility:

  • Discipline: research in humanities or social sciences applied to the history and civilizations of Asia.
  • Qualifications: applicants must hold a BA, MA degree or a recognized equivalent qualification.
  • Languages: good command of the language(s) required to successfully complete the field research project, as well as a working knowledge of French.
  • Area: scholarships are tenable in EFEO Centres in Asia.

Nationality: The students of France can apply for the scholarship.
