EFIC Educational Grant in Pain Research

GUIDELINES FOR FELLOWSHIPS : EFIC INITIATIVE ON PAIN EDUCATION IN EASTERN EUROPE
EFIC carries out a programme of educational support grants to improve the knowledge
and skills of young physicians interested in the management of pain. The project
makes part of the EFIC initiative Pain Education in Eastern Europe. Fellowships are offered
in well-equipped multidisciplinary pain centres. The duration of a fellowship will be
about ten weeks.
Each fellowship will be granted by an amount of 7.000 €. The fellow will receive 3.000 €
at the beginning of the fellowship, 3.000 € after six weeks and 1.000 € after completion
of the fellowship when submitting the evaluation of the traineeship to the EFIC secretariat.
Procedure
Applications can be made by all members of National Pain Societies in Eastern Europe
participating in EFIC. Applicants are also requested to inform their National EFIC councillor
for coordination of bids in their country. The closing date for receipt of application
forms by the EFIC office is 1 October 2008.
The following information will be required for all applications and is clearly outlined on
the application form:
a. Personal data and affiliations.
b. Training received so far.
c. Mastery of the English language.
d. Main objectives of the fellowship as perceived by the applicant.
e. Special interests of the applicant.
f. Interest in scientific research projects.
g. Scientific output so far.
At the end of the project, the trainee must submit a report to EFIC, containing an
evaluation of the fellowship within one month of its completion. The details should include
the following:
1. A weekly report of the activities (patient care, skills, educational programs etc).
2. A short evaluation addressing the question whether the goals set before starting the
fellowship have been met.
3. The number of persons taking part in the education of the trainee and their professional
status (doctors, nurses, other health professionals).
4. A general judgment about the quality of the fellowship: excellent, good, fair, poor.
