PhD Scholarship, Cambridge University, in Architecture

Job Description: Applications are invited for an EPSRC-funded PhD studentship to research building energy use, user behaviour, and urban form. This can range from building to neighbourhood scale and there will be an opportunity to interface with ReVISIONS project research (see below) on energy supply, transport, water and waste. We can provide guidance on a suitable topic providing that an applicant can demonstrate original thinking and motivation to research this subject area. The student will be supervised by Professor Koen Steemers or by Dr Tony Hargreaves, depending on the research topic.
The ReVISIONS project is investigating whether spatial planning policies in conjunction with ‘green’ infrastructure technologies and regulations can make city regions more sustainable. This project is led by the Martin Centre at the University of Cambridge and will produce guidance for decision makers on the interrelationships between regional spatial planning, infrastructure design and economic competitiveness. This is a multi-disciplinary project involving six universities. The studentship will cover tuition fees and a tax-free maintenance stipend of £13,290 per annum (for three years). The covering letter should outline the general subject area(s) that you are interested in researching, and a clear statement of your eligibility for this EPSRC funded award.
