For the last two years i have been going through the scholarships shared online and my conern is they favour the well off people and have no room for people from the disadvantaged families. This is becasue they are:
Age specific and those who are 40 years and above have have limited options. For those who went to school late when they were 10years and above because the nearest and only school was 15 kilometres away from thier rural village, and that means they couldnot start school early , because they could not walkk 3o Kilomtetres in a day -to and from. They also come from poor back gruond where they have to go to school and over holday look for manial jobs to support thier education and sometimes discontnue schooling and resume after a number of years.
I had similar challenges, i started schooling in 1976 and discontinued due to fees. I resumed in 1978 after the Kenyan government declared free primary school education. I did my Kenya Certificate for primary Education examination in 1985 and emerged the best students in my school and enrolled in a provinial High shool in 1986 as a Form one( according to Kenya governemnt system of Education). However , in 1986, due to accumulated fees which i only paid from the maniel jobs i did over the holidays , i was discontinued in 1988 at form three. I served as a lory loader with a wage of half a dollar a day and after two years i managed to raise school fees for one year. I resumed form three 1990 in a community supported school( Harambee school) and in 1991 did my O.level Kenya certificate of Secondary education examintaion and managed to score mean grade of C+ of 73 points which gave me an opportunity to University of Nairobi for B.Arts course. In 1997, i graduted with B.A. Hons. Sociology second class class . I have tried since to search support to do masters but to know avail. Iam currently working for a health programe but cannot raise enough money for my masters since i have been supporting my siblings education being the first born and from poor and illitrate parents a challenge that has hampered my accademics prgress.
I will appreciate if they are sponserships for masters degree by distance learning, mostly interested on M.A in education , health promotion and innternatinal development, my experience is in the field of health. I would very much apprreciate if i get such sholarships/sponserships and which will involve minimal costs possible both to me and the funder. Is there such support? I would appreciate very much.
