EU Centre Visiting Fellowship in Singapore, 2015

European Union Centre is offering visiting fellowship tenable in the period between May to November 2015. Fellows will spend 4-6 weeks at the Centre for developing a research project on their own or in partnership with local researchers and contributing to the academic and outreach activities of the Centre. The Fellow would be expected to give one research seminar and a public lecture for the Centre. The application deadline is 28 February, 2015.

Study Subject(s): Fellowship is awarded in following research themes: Demographic challenges facing the EU and its member states, and related issues of migration, social cohesion and identity; TTIP and EU-Japan trade negotiations and implications for EU’s economic reforms and competitiveness; EU’s trade and investments in Singapore/ASEAN/Asia and overall economic partnership and Developments in the EU’s External Action Service, Diplomacy and Common Foreign and Security Policy / Common Defence and Security Policy.
Course Level: Fellowship is available for undertaking a research project. The Fellow would be expected to give one research seminar and a public lecture for the Centre.

Eligibility: Applicants should have a PhD and demonstrable experience and expertise (substantiated by a list of publications, involvement in research projects, policy work) in any of the following research areas:
-Demographic challenges facing the EU and its member states, and related issues of migration, social cohesion and identity;
-TTIP and EU-Japan trade negotiations and implications for EU’s economic reforms and competitiveness
-EU’s trade and investments in Singapore/ASEAN/Asia and overall economic partnership
-Developments in the EU’s External Action Service, Diplomacy and Common Foreign and Security Policy / Common Defence and Security Policy
-Applicants without a PhD but with expert, policy and applied research experience in the above policy issues, including teaching of relevant academic modules / research seminars, conduct of training workshops could also be considered.

Scholarship Description: The European Union Centre in Singapore was established in mid-2008 with financial support from the European Union (EU). Its primary mission is to promote knowledge and understanding of the EU through support for EU-focused education, research and outreach activities. It is now a consortium of three local partners comprising the two largest public universities, Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore and Singapore’s oldest think tank, the Singapore Institute of International Affairs. In the current period of our second Grant Agreement from 2013 to 2015, the Centre will be focusing our efforts on outreach through media, workshops and publications. The emphasis of the Centre is on building networks and partnerships between scholars and experts from the EU and those based in Singapore, and encouraging dialogue and policy learning between the EU and Singapore/ASEAN.

What does it cover? Supporting grants of various amounts of up to €6,000 commensurate with expertise, visiting commitments and duration will be provided for the Visiting Fellow to cover travel, accommodation and subsistence allowances.

-Research project proposal, including prospective collaborators in Singapore or possibilities leading to future major EC grant opportunities, if any;
-Professional activities including teaching experience, involvement in project or research work, policy experience, and membership in research networks;
-List of publications, including editorial responsibilities, where applicable;
-Two letters of recommendation, and additional names and contact details or other academic / research referees, where applicable.
