Lancaster University is offering several faculty postgraduate scholarships for international students. These scholarships are available for students wishing to study for a master’s or PhD degree within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Applicants must already hold an offer of a place to study a postgraduate doctoral program in any department in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences before applying for a scholarship and be due to commence their studies during the 2023-24 academic year.

Postgraduate Scholarships

Application Procedure: 

  • How to Apply: Applicants should be submitted via email.
  • Supporting Documents: When applicants apply to the University of Lancaster, include certified copies of academic transcripts and award certificates to help to demonstrate their English language proficiency.
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must read the Faculty Doctoral Scholarships Further Information 2023-24 before applying.
  • English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English may be required to provide a valid English language test certificate such as IELTS, Pearson Test of English, Academic (PTE), or Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE).

Faculty Research Scholarships 2023: The terms of the award are as follows:

  • Award holders must be registered in a doctoral program in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
  • Award holders will normally be required to undertake work in their Department as a condition of their award. This varies depending on the level of support:
  • Fees only award Zero hours per week
  • Fees plus £5,000 up to 3 hours per week
  • Fees plus £5,000 <up to 6 hours per week
  • This amount will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

Faculty 1+3 Scholarships: The terms of the award are as follows:

  • Award holders must be registered in a Masters’s program and hold an offer to study in a PhD program, both within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
  • Award holders will normally be required to undertake work in their Department as a condition of their award. This varies depending on the level of support:
  • Fees only award Zero hours per week
  • Fees plus £5,000 up to 3 hours per week
  • Fees plus £5,000 < up to 6 hours per week

Faculty MA Scholarships: The terms of the award are as follows:

  • Award holders must be registered in a Masters’s program in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
  • Where an applicant has been made a conditional offer of a place on a program, any award will be conditional upon the program conditions being met.
  • Scholarships will not be paid to holders of UK Research Council studentships or the equivalent thereof.
