The Department of Engineering at the University of Agder (UiA) invites
applications for 2 tenured positions at the rank of full professor, 1 tenured
position at the rank of associate professor and 1 post-doctoral research fellow.
All the positions are in the area of Mechatronics. For all 4 positions, the
applicants must have a PhD in Mechatronics or a closely related discipline, a
strong commitment to teaching, and a proven strong track record in research,
incl. applied research and development in mechatronics. The ability to
initiate and lead research activities is important.
The two professorships are in the areas of (1) control theory and mechatronic
applications and (2) modelling, simulation and control of hydraulic driven
mechatronic systems. The position at associate professor rank will focus on
dynamics modelling, finite element modelling, 3D CAD systems and product
development. The position as post-doctoral research fellow is in the area of
modelling, simulation and control of industrial processes (oil&gas or process
industry) as well as hybrid dynamic systems modelling and optimization.
All positions are permanent, except the post-doctoral position which is for 3
years. For the two professorships, one PhD scholarship will initially be
attached to each position, as well as the possibility to hold a 20% position
at a collaborating industry research partner. For the permanent positions, a
typical year will consist of 50-60% teaching, 30% research and 10-20%
administration. The post-doctoral research fellow is also expected to teach at
approximately 25% workload with the remaining 75% research. The teaching will
be at all levels, from Bachelor to Masters and PhD level courses.
The languages in the Department are English and Norwegian. Applicants must
either speak a Nordic language, or be willing to learn to speak Norwegian
within two years of employment. The Faculty of Engineering and Science at UiA
is located in Grimstad while the rest of the university is located at
Kristiansand, Norway. A new campus is currently being built in Grimstad and
will be opened in 2010. Significant new investments have recently been made to
upgrade the Mechatronics laboratories.
Further details about the positions can be obtained from Professor Geir
Hovland, e-mail: geir.hovland@uia.no or see http://www.uia.no/mechatronics for
more information about UiA and the Mechatronics group.
The application deadline for the permanent positions is 2008-03-31 and
2008-04-30 for the post-doctoral research fellow position. Successful
candidates are expected to commence employment from January 2009, or as soon
as possible thereafter.
