A 3 year PhD studentship is available to study the cell biology of neurodegeneration. The aim of this project is to investigate the role of molecular chaperones in the normal processing of the G-protein coupled receptor rhodopsin and the potential to manipulate the fate of mutant rhodopsin. This opportunity will enable you to gain research experience using a wide variety of contemporary cell biology and neuroscience techniques within a vibrant and friendly research group and new laboratories.
The studentship is funded by Fight for Sight with a tax free stipend of £17,500 per annum increasing to £18,500 in year 3.
The UCL Institute of Ophthalmology is an internationally acclaimed multi-disciplinary research centre that achieved the highest ratings in the last four RAE assessments. Research within the Institute is wide-ranging covering from basic sciences to clinically-related translational study. This is an ideal environment for research training.
Eligibility:
This PhD studentship is open to UK and other EU candidates who have or expect to obtain at least a 2.i Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
