Job Description: Flinders University, through the Alumni Association, will offer one or more annual scholarships to the total value of $5,500 – up to $500 will be awarded as book vouchers.

Applicants for the scholarship must be permanent South Australian residents who: (a) normally reside outside the Adelaide metropolitan area (as defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics Local Council areas); and (b) have been living away from their permanent residence for at least one academic year at the time of application; and (c) will not be residing at their place of permanent residence for longer than four weeks at any one time during the coming academic year; and (d) will normally be full-time students in the last or second to last year of their first undergraduate degrees; and (e) can demonstrate that their financial and geographic circumstances will inhibit full-time completion of their undergraduate degree.

This rural scholarship will be awarded for the normal duration of the last or second to last year of the course for a first undergraduate degree (undertaken full-time).

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic merit.

TENURE: The scholarship will be awarded for the normal duration of the last or second to last year of the course for a first undergraduate degree (undertaken full-time). The scholarship holder must normally remain enrolled full-time in the year in which the scholarship is awarded. Scholarship payments will be withdrawn if the scholarship holder withdraws or is precluded from the course and will not be available for a repeat year of study. The scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments at the beginning of each semester. A book voucher will be available at the beginning of the first semester.

SOURCE OF FUNDS: The scholarship shall be funded by The Adelaide Benevolent and Strangers’ Friend Society Inc. and will cease if such funding is discontinued.

SELECTION: The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic merit. Selection will be made by a Selection Committee, which shall comprise the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), the Director, Academic and Student Services, the Head, Alumni and Community Relations, the Dean, Flinders Housing and one academic staff member from each faculty and a nominee from The Adelaide Benevolent and Strangers’ Friend Society Inc.
