FNSNA Breakthrough to Nursing Scholarships for Racial/Ethnic Minorities, 2017

The Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association (FNSNA) is awarding breakthrough to nursing scholarships for racial/ethnic minorities in selected regions of the US. U.S. citizens and students with an Alien Registration number currently enrolled in state-approved schools of nursing or pre-nursing in associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, generic doctorate, and generic master’s programs. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $7,500. Scholarship money will be used to offset the cost of tuition, academic fees and books only. Applications must be submitted online by January 29, 2016.

Eligibility: U.S. citizens and students with an Alien Registration number currently enrolled in state-approved schools of nursing or pre-nursing in associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, generic doctorate, and generic master’s programs. Funds are not available for graduate study unless it is for a first degree in nursing.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or Alien with U.S. Permanent Resident Status or hold an Alien Registration Number.

Scholarship Description: The Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association (FNSNA) was created in 1969 to honor Frances Tompkins, the Association’s first Executive Director. Organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, the Foundation awards scholarships to qualified nursing students. Contributions to the FNSNA are tax-deductible. Since 1974, the FNSNA has awarded over $2 million dollars in scholarships to undergraduate nursing students. The Foundation is organized as a 501 (C) (3) charitable foundation.

What does it cover? The NSNA Foundation awards over $330,000 annually in the General Scholarship and Promise of Nursing programs. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $7,500. Scholarship money will be used to offset the cost of tuition, academic fees and books only.

Selection Criteria: The scholarships are based on academic achievement, financial need, and involvement in nursing student organizations and community activities related to health care. Additional criteria may be required by some sponsors.

Notification: All applicants will be notified of a decision in March.

How to Apply: The completed application must be accompanied by a $10 processing fee. All applicants must submit a copy of their recent nursing school and college transcripts, or grade report. NSNA members must submit proof of their membership. Registered nurses in baccalaureate programs and licensed practical/vocational nurses in programs leading to registered nurse licensure must submit a copy of their license to be considered for the Career Mobility Scholarships.
