Four Post-doctoral positions available in Sweden
1. The role of astrocytes in the pathogenesis of ALS 2. Astrocytes as a neurogenic niche – Wnt-3 signaling and the intermediate filament system of astrocytes 3. Molecular basis of reactive gliosis 4. Nrf-2 system and ALS
The Laboratory of Astrocyte Biology and CNS Regeneration at the Center for Brain Repair and Rehabilitation, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Sahlgrenska Academy at Göteborg University is seeking applications for 4 postdoctoral positions for 2 years. The successful candidates will use techniques ranging from mouse transgenic and disease models, mouse and human neurospheres, cultures of astrocytes and neural stem cells to multidimensional quantitative rtPCR and single cell rtPCR.
Our laboratory addresses the function of astrocytes in the healing process, in synaptic plasticity, post-traumatic neurogenesis in neurotrauma, ALS, stroke, and in grafting of neural stem cells into the CNS. We are looking for postdoctoral fellows with strong interest in regenerative neuroscience and in the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of human diseases with neuroscience, medical or clinical background.
This research has a direct coupling to translational research that we pursue in the field of regenerative neuroscience at the Center for Brain Repair and Rehabilitation. The successful candidate will work in a highly dedicated English-speaking international team of people with biochemical, biological, medical and clinical competences.
The preferred starting date for these positions is June 1, 2008 but can be negotiated. Review of applications will begin immediately. Candidates with an MD/PhD or PhD degree in neuroscience are encouraged to apply. Applicants are asked to submit (a) a cover letter describing their research experiences, interests, and goals, (b) a curriculum vitae, (c) the names and contact information of three individuals who can serve as references, and (d) pdfs or reprints of relevant publications.
Applications should be submitted to Milos.Pekny@neuro.gu.se or by mail to Prof. Milos Pekny, MD, PhD, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Medicinaregatan 9A, 413 90 Göteborg. Sweden . Laboratory homepage: http://www.neurophys.gu.se/pekny
